Purpose for the Position:  The Meetings Director is responsible for ensuring that all client meetings and events run smoothly.  As a brand ambassador and trusted partner, this position will connect internal teams to deliver a seamless experience for planners, hosts, and meeting attendees.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Drive a great working environment for teams to thrive - linking up departments to create sense of one team.
  2. Direct everyday activity, plan and assign work ensuring you always have the right staffing numbers.
  3. Develop your team and improve their performance through coaching and feedback and create performance and development goals for colleagues.
  4. Train colleagues to make sure they deliver with compliance and to the standards we expect.
  5. Recommend or initiate any Human Resources related actions where needed.
  6. Interact with outside contacts: guests, vendors, and other contacts as needed.
  7. Complete forecasts, plans, and productivity reports and help prepare the departmental budget and financial plans.
  8. Monitor hotel spend and always look for opportunities to optimize sales whilst minimizing waste.
  9. Negotiate sales prices within booking guidelines.
  10. Raise the awareness and reputation of your hotel and the brand locally.
  11. Ensure guest safety is a priority with minimal interruptions or problems.
  12. Offer advice to clients to reduce waste, save energy and have a minimal impact to the environment.
  13. Other ad-hoc duties - unexpected moments when we have to pull together to get a task done.

To do this kind of work, you must be able to:

  • Must be a confident communicator with strong interpersonal strong skills.
  • Possess business language and tools acumen.
  • Direct supervisory experience over a sales/catering team, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must speak local language(s).
  • Position may have additional qualifications per brand standards.

Physical Demands:  Lifting 30 lbs. Maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs.  Requires walking or standing to a significant degree, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing.

Environmental Conditions:  Inside:  Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.  A job is considered "inside" if the worker spends approximately 75% or more of the time inside.

Things:  Handling:  Using body members, hand tools, and/or special devices to work, move, or carry objects or materials.  Involves little or no latitude for judgment with regard to attainment of standards or in selecting appropriate tools, objects or materials.

Specific Vocational Preparation:  Specific vocational training should include a significant combination of college education, on-the-job training, or essential experience in less responsible jobs which lead to the higher job or serving in other jobs.  Bachelor's Degree/higher education qualification/equivalent in hospitality or related field.  3+ years' total experience in a catering setting or related field.
