JOB TITLE:  Senior Accountant

REPORTS TO:  Director of Accounting

SUPERVISES DIRECTLY:  Accountants

Purpose for the Position:  Review and supervise the work of Accountants to ensure accurate and timely monthly financial statements for multiple hotels.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise, train, and mentor Accountants.
  2. Coordinate and communicate with Accountants to gather all financial information needed to prepare monthly financial statements.
  3. Review weekly bank reconciliations prepared by Accountants. Discuss cash position and update Operations and Director of Accounting of any cash flow issues.
  4. Review monthly financial statements for accuracy.
  5. Review and approve all balance sheet reconciliation schedules: prepaid, accruals, inventory, etc.  Communicate discrepancies with Director of Accounting.
  6. Review sales tax/occupancy tax schedules used to file monthly/quarterly returns, complete sales tax/occupancy tax returns, and coordinate timely payment with Accounts Payable. Communicate issues with tax calculations to hotel accounting staff and Director of Field Accounting.
  7. Apply the financial policies and procedures of the company. Bring inconsistencies and problems to the attention of management.
  8. Participate in Financial Preliminary Review Call.
  9. Provide analytical, supplemental, and other data as requested by hotel and corporate staff.
  10. Assist hotel and corporate accounting staff with the preparation of budgets.
  11. Create annual tax, insurance, and other schedules for accounting staff.
  12. Work with the Director of Field Accounting to set up books and records for hotel transitions and divestitures.
  13. Review final financial reporting package for completeness and accuracy. Coordinate communication with Ownership.
  14. Additional duties as requested.

To do this kind of work, you must be able to:

  • Understand and use math concepts.
  • Work math problems quickly and accurately.
  • Understand and use computers and related equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel.
  • Speak and write clearly to report financial information.
  • Plan and direct the work of accounting clerks and other workers.
  • Be available for work evenings, weekends, and holidays, including travel as required.

Physical Demands:   Lifting 10 lbs. maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers, and small tools.  Walking and standing are required only occasionally.  Reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.

Environmental Conditions:   Inside:  Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.  A job is considered "inside" if the worker spends approximately 75% or more of the time inside.

Math Skills:  Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to:  Compute discount, interest, profit and loss, commission, markups and selling price.
