We recently spoke with Filip to find out more about working within the Lodging Apprenticeship within a busy hotel and his journey in the hospitality industry.  Here is what Filip had to say:

How did you get into the hospitality industry and why?

I always wanted to work in a hotel because I thought that meeting new people and speaking foreign languages would be so cool and now I’m doing exactly that!

What do you love about your job?

I love my coworkers, the atmosphere at work, but most of all I love the appreciation, recognition and the ability to learn and grow within the company.

What are the challenges of your job?

Time management – there is always so much to do and prioritizing your tasks is essential!

Tell us about your typical work day.

I start my day with reading emails and reviews, so that I can congratulate our team on doing a great job.  I will also tell them where we could use some improvement. After that, you can find me working the front desk, inspecting rooms, getting quotes, helping with maintenance or accounting.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in hospitality or to someone who is interested in becoming a Lodging Apprenticeship

Make sure you are familiar with the area; guests really appreciate when they can get answers to every question they have about the area. It also helps you keep the conversation going, so that you can leave that lasting impression on them – which will make them come back! P.S. Don’t forget to smile!

Where do you see yourself in 3 years?

I see myself right here, with Real Hospitality Group. Maybe not at the same property, but definitely in the same company.  I would love to be a GM one day or maybe work for the corporate office; whatever the future brings – I’m ready!
