Independent Hotel - Ocean City, MD
1 year(s) with Real Hospitality Group
We recently spoke with Cody - Maintenance Engineer to find out more about his journey within the hospitality industry.
How did you get into the hospitality industry and why?
My step father directed me to this area and said if you want a good job and be around good people go complete an application. Which I did and so I work here as a result.
What do you love about your job?
Fixing things and being challenged on projects. I love the people who work at and visit the property.
What are the challenges of your job?
I love the challenge of learning something new every day. I enjoy going out of my way to make sure everything is perfect and performing at the highest level.
Tell us about your typical work day.
The first thing I do is the temperature readings for the kitchen equipment, I check the boilers temp, vacuum the pool and make sure all of the chemical levels are perfect. I walk all 11 floors to check lighting and that the ice machines are running properly. I also handle calls for anything that needs to be repaired.
What advice would you give to someone starting out in hospitality or to someone who is interested in becoming a Maintenance Engineer
It's a very busy job. You will learn new things every day. If you like to work with your hands then this is the perfect job. There is always something to do and repair.
Where do you see yourself in 3 years?
Becoming a Supervisor or Chief Engineer.
