Complex Director of Sales

We recently spoke with Katie to find out more about her journey within the hospitality industry.
How did you get into the hospitality industry and why?
Hospitality piqued my interest because I am such a people person and love talking to strangers. I graduated with my college degree in hospitality management. I was a bartender and server throughout college and I always thought I would continue that route and open my own restaurant in the future. I started working in hotels completely by accident. I started at the front desk part time and within six months was a full-time associate that wanted to learn everything I could about hotel hospitality.
What do you love about your job?
The people, especially my co-workers who are like my family. I also love getting to know guests and clients and extending our hotel family atmosphere to those same people. I am passionate about understanding guest needs, exceeding expectations, and driving revenue. I especially love working in hospitality sales because it provides the perfect balance of guest interaction and financial analysis.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in hospitality or to someone who is interested in becoming a Complex Director of Sales
I would say learn as much as you can from everybody and anybody in the hotel. There are so many moving parts and it wouldn’t work unless everyone works together. It is so interesting to hear different point of views and very beneficial to know how each department works.
